For its fourth generation, the Chevy Malibu was downsized in virtually every dimension, including weight, aligning it more with earlier, sportier Chevelle models. Available in wagon, sedan and the exceptionally handsome Coupe configurations, plus the El Camino that rode on its chassis. Suspension was by coil spring on all four corners. An F41 Performance Package that included higher rate springs, a larger front sway bar, a rear bar, and firmer bushings could be ordered. Chevy even modified the front bumper to serve as a stiffening cross member.
