California Prop 65

California Proposition 65
Proposition 65 warning labels can be found on Aldan American’s website, marketing collateral (catalogs, sales literature, etc.) and product packaging. These warnings are a result of a California State Law passed in 1986—the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (known as “Proposition 65”).
Many Aldan products use common materials such as brass, stainless steel or others that contain one or more chemicals on the California Prop 65 list. While it is exposure to these chemicals that the California law is intended to address, Aldan has chosen to label products that contain these chemicals even if there is little to no risk of any exposure.
What is Prop 65
The Proposition 65 law applies to any company operating, manufacturing, or selling products in the state of California.
Prop 65 requires businesses to provide warnings within the state of California about exposures to chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. There are over 900 chemicals on this list provided by The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) who administers the Prop 65 program.
OEHHA, which is part of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA), also evaluates all currently available scientific information on substances considered for placement on the Prop 65 list. The current list can be referenced here: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list
What does a Prop 65 warning mean?
Proposition 65 may be best defined as a “Right to Know” law and Proposition 65 warnings are not an indication that a product is violating safety standards or regulations. At Aldan, we work with our suppliers and provide these warnings to our customers to comply with the state laws of California and the regulations within Proposition 65.
Why do some products include this warning?
We’re taking the initiative to inform our clients and to make sure all products and procedures are in place to meet the requirements within the regulations provided under Proposition 65. Prop 65 warnings apply to any company operating, manufacturing, or selling products in the state of California. Aldan products are sold worldwide. At this time, we have chosen to include this warning on all of our products to ensure compliance with Proposition 65 law, regardless of destination.
For the Safe Harbor/Short Form labeling. We’ll be including these warnings on our website, marketing collateral (catalogs, sales literature, etc.) and packaging.
