IMPROVE MUSCLE CAR STEERING & HANDLING WITH CASTER RODS

Building on over forty years of experience in high-performance suspension solutions for American muscle cars, our team has procured and spec’d the best top-grade caster rods from SPC (Specialty Products Company), a U.S.-based leader in suspension components.

CASTER RODS REPLACEMENT FOR CLASSIC CAR OWNERS

If you’re driving a classic Ford or Mercury with radial tires and stock caster rods (also known as strut rods) in the front suspension, upgrading to SPC adjustable caster rods can dramatically enhance performance and safety. Radial tires require a greater caster angle to optimize handling and responsiveness and reduce wandering at highway speeds—an area where factory strut rods fall short. Factory-installed caster rods provide only about 1° of caster, which is insufficient for the demands of today’s radial tires.

  • SPC’s adjustable strut rods allow up to ±3.00° of caster adjustment, improving vehicle stability and steering feel
  • The rods come with durable, low-durometer OEM-style bushings to reduce vibration and protect the chassis mount from damage
  • Easy, bolt-on installation for seamless integration. No cutting or welding required.
  • Upgrades classic Ford or Mercury models to better match with modern radials
  • Enhances driving experience by delivering improved responsiveness, safety and enjoyment

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the benefit of buying an Aldan American kit with other manufacturer parts included?

Aldan American has been designing and manufacturing high-performance shock absorbers, coilovers and suspension kits for 40 years – that’s our specialty. To best serve our customers, we’ve selected control arms from top manufacturers that best complement our suspension components. Buying a fully tested and vetted kit from Aldan American takes the guess work out of selecting parts individually which may or may not fit. This way you get the best match of products from one source.

Can the caster be adjusted on all vehicles?

No, caster adjustment is not available on all vehicles. Many modern cars, especially front-wheel-drive models, have a fixed caster angle that can’t be adjusted without aftermarket modifications. However, on some cars, trucks and SUVs, particularly those with rear-wheel drive, the caster can often be adjusted as part of a professional alignment.

How is caster adjusted?

When the caster is adjustable, it’s usually changed by adjusting the suspension components, such as fine-tuning control arms or using caster adjustment bolts. The process requires specialized tools and equipment, so a professional alignment technician generally performs it.

Why would you want to adjust caster?

Adjusting the caster can improve vehicle stability, especially at high speeds, and enhance the steering feel. A properly adjusted caster angle also helps the steering wheel return to the center after a turn, making the vehicle easier to control.

What happens if caster is not set correctly?

Incorrect caster can lead to poor stability, especially at higher speeds, and make the vehicle feel challenging to control. It can also lead to excessive wear on steering components. Caster misalignment, unlike camber or toe, usually doesn’t cause uneven tire wear.

Can I adjust the caster myself?

Caster adjustment requires precise measurements and specialized equipment, so it’s best left to professionals. A professional alignment ensures that caster, camber, and toe are set correctly for optimal performance and safety.
