Second Generation Chevrolet Camaro Coilover Kit
Years: 1970-1981
While the second-gen Chevrolet Camaro was longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, Chevy engineers carried over the independent front and leaf spring rear suspension. Even with these changes, much can be done to improve the suspension of a second-gen Camaro, especially coilover conversions.
The Aldan American front coilover conversion is available with single- or double-adjustable shocks. The coilovers can be combined with single adjustable rear shocks, either as part of a package or separately, to provide more balanced handling.

Aldan American Chevrolet Camaro Suspension Upgrades
While still based on the F-body platform, the longer, lower, wider second-generation Camaro carried over from its predecessor a unibody structure with a separate front subframe, an independent front suspension, and leaf springs at the rear axle. It’s been reported that Chevrolet engineers took information gained in racing the first-gen Camaro in Trans-Am competition to improve the second-gen model’s steering, braking and balance.
Production of the 1970 Camaro began in February 1970, halfway through the model year. Many refer to the model year as 1970½, though all were 1970 models. The 1974 model year was the last to offer the optional RPO Z28 package. The Z28 would reemerge as a trim level for the 1977 model year (no longer requiring an RPO code to order).
Aldan American Chevrolet Camaro coilover kits are suspension upgrades loaded with 40 years American muscle car innovation and suspension performance knowledge. All our coilovers are made in the USA and use factory hardware designed to be used on all OEM mounting locations.
Our double-adjustable front coilovers provide 180 unique combinations of settings. This allows Camaro owners to custom-tune their car’s suspension for wherever they drive — from Friday cruise nights to Saturday drags to a Sunday afternoon autocross.

1970 2nd Gen Camaro Coilover Install
Aldan American offers a full line of 1st and 2nd Gen Camaro coilovers and suspension kits for your 1967-1981 Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Oldsmobile Omega, Chevrolet Nova, F Body (1967-1981), and X Body (1968-1974).
Aldan American’s Camaro coilovers are made in the USA and use factory hardware designed to be used on all OEM mounting locations. Aldan’s Phantom Series, single adjustable Camaro coilovers deliver superior handling and ride quality for a drastic improvement over stock suspension.
For this Camaro we decided to use Aldan American’s double adjustable coilover system up front and a single adjustable rear “smooth body” rear shock with the factory leaf spring in the rear. The double adjustable coilovers in the front feature 20 levels of rebound adjustment and six compression settings. In the rear the smooth body shock has 11 clicks of adjustment for rebound only (note: a double adjustable rear shock will be soon available according to Aldan American).
