Developed as a competitor to the Ford Thunderbird, the 1963-1965 Buick Riviera was the division’s entry into the personal luxury segment. The luxurious and sporty two-door four-seat coupe was based on a shortened and narrowed GM X-frame named the E platform. The Riviera’s suspension was of standard Buick design of the time, with double wishbones in the front and a live axle located by trailing arms and a lateral Panhard link in the rear with coil springs all around. This design allows for easy upgrades to improve handling and response significantly.
